Talbott Kali Hart Chardonnay

Our 2019 Kali Hart Chardonnay is a fruit-forward, refreshing expression of a cool-climate white wine from our legendary Sleepy Hollow Vineyard. The first pour releases inviting aromas of oak, butterscotch and brioche in the glass. A luscious mouthfeel reveals layers of Golden Delicious apple and sliced pear with tropical notes of Kaffir lime and pineapple. Hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and butter follow through to a creamy finish.

The 2019 growing season was steady, beginning with average rainfall and warm spring temperatures. Conditions stayed mild throughout the season with budbreak occurring as expected in the middle of March, leading to a consistent bloom and set. Warmer temperatures in early fall allowed for even ripening right through the end of harvest. Sleepy Hollow produced its usual modest crop of intensely flavored and structured grapes with beautiful acid and fruit balance.

Located 20 miles south of Monterey Bay, Sleepy Hollow Vineyard offers near-perfect conditions for growing elegant, coastal-influenced Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Well-drained sand, gravel and granite create rich, concentrated flavors in the grapes. With an east-southeast exposure, the vines receive morning sunlight followed by cool fog from the Pacific Ocean. As a result, a long, cool growing season helps the grapes develop the character, intensity and depth of flavor. The Olson Vineyard resides in the southern region of the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation along a stunning section of rolling hills and hillsides. This vineyard is composed of a selection of granite and limestone soils and enjoys warmer days to ripen Chardonnay to tropical fruit aromas with softer acidity and a rich mouthfeel.
