90 Plus Cellars 181 Barbaresco

Like the great Barolo, Barbaresco is made from Nebbiolo grapes harvested from hillside vineyards in northwest Italy. Between the Alps and the Mediterranean sea, Nebbiolo vines blanket the high hillsides northeast of the town of Alba. On these slopes, the interplay of the warm, Mediterranean sun, and cool alpine air allows the late ripening Nebbiolo to achieve full flavor ripeness creating wines with perfumed aromas, a firm texture and a brilliant freshness.

Bunches are hand-harvested then fermented in stainless steel under controlled temperatures. The wine undergoes a post-fermentation
maceration with the skins prior to being pressed and racked into large Slavonian oak barrels. This combination of cooler temps and large oak aging accentuates the fruit aromas and keeps tannin in check with the wines flavors and acidity. It will mature for a combined 26 months in barrel and bottle prior to release.

Tasting Notes

Fresh cherries and violets burst from the glass with a light toast and a hint of smoke lingering on the finish. Pair this beauty alongside beef tenderloin with roasted garlic or a medley of assorted cheeses.
